Something about a recent visit to the local supermarket really stood out to me, or – rather – at me. In fact, an entire aisle of shelf signs stood out – literally. Its shelves were armed with shelf wobblers and decorated in eye-catching store signs promoting deals that were too good to pass up.
The aisle was lined with the whole gamut of shelf edge sign holders and clips displaying signage that teemed with savings. A vertical banner hanger promoted the store’s digital coupon system with an eye-catching sign, while a nearby sea of red tags beckoned to me, stretching out from the shelves by shelf wobblers. How could I possibly make it down the aisle without having my attention drawn to their latest promotion?
This is a great example of catering to Omni-channel consumer expectations with effective merchandising displays (and strategies). By lacing the physical store experience with the infinite possibilities of the online space, your customers can have a better experience. The image of a phone on the shelf sign cues the shoppers to their ability to access these coupons from their cell phone so that they may benefit from the red sea of savings. I think this is a great example of sign holders in action at the local grocery store!
These extra touches help position your business as a modern leader. They should also help customers feel satisfied with their decision to give you their business. Store owners and merchandisers should remember that tactics, which strive to optimize the customer path, are just as important as point of purchase display equipment. Moving products off the shelves requires a lot more than a few well-placed swivel clips or shelf dividers – though they do help.
