Every year, thousands of retailers attend Outdoor Retailer’s Summer and Winter Market Events. They travel from all over the world to discover new trends and meet their customers’ favorite manufacturers, face-to-face. It’s a great time for anyone who loves the outdoors, but an even better time for visual merchandisers who love to catch the latest in retail display creativity. This past Winter, we noticed TOAD playing into a woodsy, outdoor theme – complete with a barn wall and woodpile – and thought they did a great job blending professional POP materials with several accessories not typically found at the point of purchase.

The handmade display frames (above) hung on a wall made of real barn wood resulted in an undeniably charming aesthetic appeal. A tree-lined, wall-sized company sign, set immediately beside the barn, completed the backdrop for their winter line. Hanging clips helped bring a bit of casual signage into the displays. A few other outdoor accessories set among the occasional hanging wall sign filled the voids between product wearing mannequins.

TOAD’s team really made the most out of their small display area with a few custom merchandising display tables. Each table provided enough space to show off a few choice items that captured the essence of the new line. Even with limited space, they committed to their theme and reserved room for a decorative canteen, a leather briefcase and a vertical sign holder.

Woodpile creates visual merchandising backdrop to retail window display

Do you recall the last time you saw a woodpile in a retail shop? I certainly can’t – but the backdrop to this outgoing window display is a stack of real wood. The retail team actually rented it from a local lumberjack. I think it’s a great, organic touch. I especially love the Modern Travel sign that is nonchalantly hung against it. The entire display perfectly blends the world of POP accessories and sign holders with the great outdoors in a fun, interesting manner.

Congratulations to the TOAD Merchandising Team for a visual merchandising job well done. Also, thanks to Nina, from the State of Mine Blog (and TOAD’s retail team), for sharing your behind-the-scenes story and awesome photos. We’re glad to know that you are keeping the maker-spirit alive while you do what you love.
